CHURCH MEMBERSHIP
Membership in The ONE Church is a very simple matter. Any man, woman, boy, or girl who has been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in obedience to Biblical mandate, desiring to be counted as a member of this fellowship, may do so by providing a completed MEMBERSHIP FORM. The ONE Church does not set any arbitrary requirements upon those who would be a member of our church. Doing so fails to recognize that different people are at different places in their spiritual walk and "standards" of conduct only require and encourage people who may have no real convictions or scruples to embrace certain behaviors for no other reason than to conform. This is not acceptable! All believers should embrace the Christian life and walk according to godliness and holiness in response to a clear personal understanding of those things which may be required of them by the Lord or encouraged within the Word of God. We do not ask for or demand blind obedience or simple conformity.
Members are encouraged and expected to faithfully attend services and to support the work and ministry of the church with their time, talents, skills, and resources. Individuals who fail to attend services for more than 90 days are removed from the membership rolls; except they be hospitalized, home-bound, infirmed, or otherwise understandably absent. The ONE Church does not seek to build it's number, but to establish a faithful and zealous body of believers, operating in unity and cooperation to do the work of the Lord effectively and earnestly as we await His soon return.
The ONE Church welcomes all who desire to become members of this fellowship as "Members in Fellowship." All members of our church have equal say and input. Only those members, however, who regularly support the ministry with their tithe are recognized as "Supporting Members." Supporting Members alone are given a vote in matters related to church finance and economic matters. This ensures that while all have an equal voice, only those who actually contribute regularly and faithfully to the support of the ministry have a formal vote in matters related to finance. This seems to us to be only fair and equitable.
The Word of God does set forth very specific requirements for individuals within the church who wish to participate in ministry and assume certain leadership, teaching, visceral or practical responsibilities. These types of positions are filled by members who have been appointed as elders or deacons within the local church. The Biblical standard for deacons (those who engage in practical ministry related to the church and it's facilities; custodial, maintainence, security, etc.), as well as elders (those who engage in spiritually significant ministries on behalf of the church - teachers, ministers, worship leaders, Christian workers, etc), will be fully embraced and upheld. All positions within the local church are by pastoral appointment. The pastor has at all times full discretion as to appointees, and he may remove an individual from their post at any time. However, appointments are generally made for the term of one year.
Elders
Acts 14:23
And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.
I Timothy 5:17-20
17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith , Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn . And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. 19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. 20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
Titus 1:5
For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting , and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
James 5:14
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Deacons
I Timothy 3:8-13
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved ; then let them use the office of a deacon , being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
